The 2009 Africat Marine 420 is a 42-foot fiberglass catamaran built for serious fishing and cruising. This boat has been re-powered with twin Mercury V-10 Verado outboards producing 400 horsepower each, a significant upgrade from the original configuration. The outboard setup delivers a shallow draft of just 36 inches, simplified engine maintenance and accessibility, and the ability to fully retract the engines and props when anchored or docked—eliminating exposed shafts and struts below the hull and allowing for beaching if desired.
The three-stateroom layout accommodates multiple guests with two heads and two stall showers. Additional features include a clothes washer for extended cruising. The boat cruises at 20 knots and reaches 24 knots at top speed. The 22-foot beam provides a spacious platform typical of the catamaran design.
Recent updates include new aluminum 600-gallon fuel tanks and an upgraded air-conditioning system. The re-power includes extended engine warranties from Mercury Marine. A new generator and optional solar system can be selected to suit your preferences, as can new electronics. This re-powered 420 was completed with the design approval and modification assistance of the naval architect and manufacturer.
