The 2014 Hylas 63 is a cutter-rigged cruising yacht built to exacting standards at the Queen Long shipyard. Hull number three, she features a solid fiberglass construction using alternating layers of Twaron aramid fiber and e-glass with vinylester resin, vacuum-bagged for optimal strength and resin-to-fiber ratio. The hull is protected below the waterline with epoxy barrier coats and joined to the deck with stainless-steel bolts and 3M 5200 adhesive. A solid-lead keel with thirteen stainless-steel bolts and a balanced rudder provide stability and control, while all through-hull fittings are solid bronze.
The yacht accommodates two cabins and two heads, with a spacious main saloon. The owner's stateroom includes a Dimplex fireplace, while Sleep Number mattresses outfit the sleeping areas. The galley is comprehensively equipped with an Ocean Chef LPG stove, two Vittrofrigo freezer-refrigerators, two Frigoboat stand-up units, a GE convection oven-microwave, Fisher&Paykel dishwasher drawer, and Broan trash compactor. Granite countertops and stainless-steel fixtures throughout reinforce the quality build. A Bosch washer and dryer are included. Abundant teak handrails, opening hatches, and ports provide light and ventilation for offshore cruising.
The propulsion and electrical systems are extensive and redundant. A Yanmar 6BY3 diesel engine produces 220 horsepower, paired with a bow and stern thruster for maneuvering. Power comes from a 1000 AH 24V house bank of Lifeline AGM batteries charged by dual Mastervolt chargers. A Northern Lights 12 kW generator supplies 120/240V shore power via dual 50A connections. Climate control includes Hurricane hydronic heating with three zones and Marine Air air conditioning throughout. The rig features a Seldén three-spreader aluminum mast with in-mast furling, a Furlex genoa furler, and a staysail with mechanical furler; all standing rigging is rod. Doyle Sails include a cruising mainsail, genoa, staysail, and spinnaker with sock.
Electronics include a comprehensive Raymarine, Icom, and Bose package with multiple hybrid touch displays, 4 kW radar, GPS antennas, autopilot with remote controls, AIS, and Starlink connectivity. A 10-foot AB dinghy with 25 hp Yammer engine and electric davits, six-person life raft, folding bikes, and paddle board are included. Extensive spare parts and tools support extended cruising.
