The Catalina Expo 14.2 is a 14-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built on the proven platform of the Catalina 14.2 design, adapted for ease and accessibility. It brings an alternative rig configuration that appeals equally to sailors new to the sport and experienced dinghy sailors seeking straightforward, uncomplicated sailing.
At the heart of the design is the SmartRig system: a tapered carbon fiber mast and Hoyt boom that work together to simplify sail management. Two control lines handle all sail adjustments—one for size and one for shaping. The carbon fiber mast is lighter than aluminum, which reduces weight aloft and improves stability by minimizing excessive heel. In gusty conditions, the mast flexes rather than forcing the boat to tip, and the sail furls completely around the mast with a single line when you're done.
The rig is free-standing with no supporting wires or chainplates, eliminating deck clutter and reducing setup time. The high-mounted aluminum boom stays clear of the cockpit, and tacking is effortless—the boom travels low enough that ducking is rarely necessary. With just one sail to manage, the Expo offers infinite adjustment across a single line, allowing you to shift sail size quickly as wind conditions change throughout the day.
