The 2024 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490 is the eighth-generation flagship of the Sun Odyssey line, introducing a revised hull form centered on a full-length chine and new "scow bow" design. The bow is shaped to rise into the wind and skip across waves, displacing water outward for a dry, comfortable motion. The hull balances substantial forward buoyancy with a clean profile that moves efficiently through water. Deck layout has been reimagined with inclined walk-around side decks that connect twin helm stations directly to the bow, improving movement and workability across the 49-foot length and 14.67-foot beam.

Below deck, the interior follows an entirely new arrangement prioritized for livability and ease of movement. The galley sits centrally with storage positioned low in the hull to reduce center of gravity and improve sailing performance. Three cabins each feature true rectangular berths and generous headroom. The master suite forward includes a separate shower compartment in the center, a vanity sink to starboard, and a head with vanity in a separate port-side compartment, arranged in a modern hotel-style layout.

Accommodations feature Alpi wood finish in grey oak with bright white accents throughout. Large rectangular hull ports, expansive windows, and deck hatches flood the interior with natural light. The single 80-horsepower Yammer diesel engine powers the boat to a maximum speed of 9.5 knots and cruising speed of 8.5 knots. The yacht sleeps comfortably across its three cabins with two heads, supporting extended cruising or leisurely daysailing.
