The 2024 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490 is a 49-foot cruising sailyacht built on a full-chine hull with the company's new "Scow Bow" design. This hull form keeps the bow riding upward into waves and swell, displacing water outward for a drier, more comfortable motion through rough conditions. The boat reaches a maximum speed of 9.5 knots, with a cruising speed of 8.5 knots, powered by an 80 hp Yanmar diesel engine.

The 490 introduces a redesigned interior layout focused on ease of movement and livability. It features three cabins, each with true rectangular berths and substantial headroom, plus two heads. The galley is centrally positioned with low storage to keep weight down and aid sailing performance. The master suite forward includes a separate shower compartment, dual vanity sinks, and a dedicated head compartment. Interior finishes are Alpi Grey Oak with white accents throughout. Large rectangular hull ports, expansive windows, and multiple deck hatches provide abundant natural light.

On deck, the boat offers twin helms with inclined walk-around side decks that run the full length of the boat, allowing easy movement forward to the bow. The fiberglass hull and innovative design represent the eighth generation of the Sun Odyssey line, emphasizing both seaworthiness and comfort for extended cruising.
