The Shogun 43 is a 43-foot performance cruising yacht built entirely in carbon fibre and epoxy sandwich construction. Designed by Oscar and Håkan Södergren, she combines racing-grade speed with the accessibility and comfort needed for shorthanded sailing. The hull features an axe bow profile with integral spray sails, an ORC-optimised carbon keel with lead bulb, and twin carbon rudders fitted with an e-bar toe-angle adjustment system. Power comes from a single Volvo Penta diesel engine.
Deck systems are tailored for easy handling by minimal crew. The mast is Pauger high-modulus carbon with matching standing rigging and a manual hydraulic mast-jack. Six Harken Performa cockpit winches and two additional electric Harken winches manage the full North racing sail wardrobe, which includes a 3Di mainsail, jib, staysails, asymmetrics, and code sails. Electric furlers serve the headsails and flying headsails, while an Antal electric mainsheet traveller and load-cell forestay display simplify trim control from the helm. Jefa steering with twin carbon wheels provides responsive handling.
Below deck, the interior is arranged across three cabins and one head, designed to feel quiet, solid, and light despite the performance focus. Full galley equipment and an electric carbon toilet support extended cruising. Navigation and autopilot systems use B&G electronics including Zeus 9-inch plotters, H5000 instruments, and an AIS transceiver. Victron Energy electrics with charger and inverter supply ship's power, while Eberspacher heating provides warmth. The boat carries Oyster White topsides and flexi teak decking throughout.
Recent performance includes line honours across multiple double-handed competitions, including the Princess Sofia Cup, Gotland Runt, and ORC Double-Handed European Championships in Helsinki, validating the design's competitive character and ease of handling under racing conditions.
