2026 Helmsman Trawlers 38 Sedan
About This Yacht
The Helmsman 38 Sedan is a traditional sedan trawler with a modern execution, featuring full walk-around covered side decks and the classic profile of a European trawler. The design stretches the transom aft by more than two feet compared to its 37 Sedan predecessor, adding interior volume to the salon while the upper deck gains similar length for expanded dinghy-carrying options. The cockpit maintains the large proportions that defined earlier models.
Interior layouts are offered in several configurations: a single stateroom with separate head and shower compartments, or two staterooms with an integrated head and shower. The salon can be arranged with either a U-shaped dinette and raised port seating with starboard linear galley, or an L-shaped dinette paired with a forward port galley. Throughout, the interior combines modern comfort with nautical character through teak and holly flooring, teak joinery, and numerous opening windows for ventilation. Teak is used extensively for interior details only, avoiding the maintenance demands of exterior teak.
Construction emphasizes quality across all visible elements: thick deck sections, deep gel coat, sturdy rails, and quality hardware throughout. The upper deck is designed as an entertaining space with seating for six or more, complete with a standard flybridge control station. Power comes from a Cummins QSB 6.7 liter 380 horsepower electronically-controlled common rail diesel engine, with higher ratings available. The design prioritizes economical, reliable operation and minimal exterior maintenance to maximize cruising time.
