The Helmsman 43 Pilothouse is a 43-foot fiberglass trawler built for extended cruising and comfortable living aboard. This second-generation design refines the original 43 Pilothouse with redesigned exterior windows for improved sightlines, a refined pilothouse roofline with better water management, and enhanced acoustic insulation throughout the hull, particularly around the master stateroom for quieter anchorages. The boat is powered by a single Cummins QSB 6.7L diesel engine rated at 380 horsepower with electronic common-rail controls, with optional higher horsepower ratings available.
The signature low-rise pilothouse creates a seamless connection between the helm and full-beam main salon, offering excellent visibility aft while functioning as comfortable dining or lounging space. The main salon features large opening windows that flood the interior with natural light and panoramic views. A practical day head adjoins the salon, and the salon dinette with day head can be enclosed to form a private guest suite. Two cabins provide accommodations: a generous owner's stateroom with deep hanging lockers, extensive shelving, and abundant storage, plus a guest stateroom with a double berth and ample locker space.
The exterior is thoughtfully laid out for safety and practicality. A high bow, mid-ships boarding access, a larger cockpit with full-length cover, and deep pilothouse side-deck footwells make movement easy in all conditions. Wide flybridge access stairs on both sides lead to a flexible flybridge that can be configured with either a center helm and L-shaped settee or a starboard helm with U-shaped dinette. The large boat deck easily accommodates a dinghy and cruising gear, bordered by a no-drip edge for clean water management.
Construction quality is evident throughout: thick deck laminates, deep gelcoat, sturdy welded double-rung rails, premium hardware, and teak detailing define the interior finish. The build is designed for reliability and minimal exterior maintenance, allowing owners to maximize time cruising rather than maintaining the boat.
