The Helmsman 38E Pilothouse is a 38-foot fiberglass trawler built on a wide-beam hull with a low-rise pilothouse that opens directly into the salon, eliminating the separation typical of traditional pilothouse designs. The boat features a commanding flybridge, high bow, covered aft deck, and deep side-deck footwells for enhanced safety and practicality in varying conditions. A single Cummins diesel engine of 380 hp provides economical cruising power.
The main salon is full-beam and expansive, with rich nautical appointments throughout. The boat includes one stateroom, plus a day head and an additional second head—an uncommon feature for this size. The dinette and day head can be enclosed to create a separate guest suite when needed. The layout reflects solid construction methods with thick deck sections, deep gel coat, sturdy rails, quality hardware, and carefully finished teak interior joinery.
The 38E represents an evolution of the earlier 38 model, with refinements to the deck design including an extended cockpit cover and improved rain management around the pilothouse roof. Forward window styling has been revised, and enhanced sound attenuation materials are now incorporated throughout the interior floor structure for better engine noise control. Wide access stairs port and starboard lead to the flybridge, and the overall design fits comfortably within a 40-foot slip while delivering the spacious feel of a much larger boat.
