This 1983 Tartan 42 is a Sparkman & Stephens design built on a solid fiberglass hull with a 12-foot beam. Powered by a 50-horsepower Perkins diesel, the yacht cruises at six knots with a top speed around 7.6 knots. The standing rigging was entirely replaced in December 2020, and the boat carries a modern electronics suite including a Garmin 740S chartplotter with integrated GPS, Raymarine radar, and linked instruments. A 900-watt Renogy solar array with dual Victron SmartSolar controllers supports the house bank of four AGM batteries, while a Spectra Ventura 2000 watermaker provides fresh water for extended passages.
The sail plan includes a fully battened mainsail from 2019 in good condition, a 2021 furling genoa, and a backup genoa from 2010. Six Lewmar self-tailing winches, ranging from size 16 to 48, handle the sail work, and a Lewmar Concept 1 electric windlass with deck and cockpit controls manages the ground tackle—a substantial Rocna 55-pound primary anchor with 200 feet of chain and 400 feet of rode, backed by a Danforth 60-pound secondary anchor. The boat sails short-handed with a CPT autopilot and Monitor windvane self-steering.
Below deck, the interior features warm teak joinery throughout a spacious salon with two cabins and one head. Accommodations suit extended cruising with a Nova Kool refrigerator and deep freezer, a propane gimbaled oven, a Jabsco marine head, and the watermaker noted above. Fuel capacity is 79 gallons, fresh water 105 gallons total, and holding tank 19 gallons. Safety systems include engine-room fire suppression, bilge alarms, CO and smoke detectors, and gas sniffers.
Recent upgrades include new Sunbrella canvas—bimini, cockpit cover, and spray hood cover—all from 2025, along with custom cockpit cushions. The mainsail cover and genoa cover are from 2021, and lazy jacks were installed in 2024. The boat was actively cruised throughout the previous year.
