The 2009 Hinckley Picnic Boat 37 MKIII is a composite downeast cruiser built around twin Volvo D4 300-horsepower diesel engines driving Hamilton 274 jet drives. The boat reaches a maximum speed of 26 knots and cruises at 24 knots, with performance enhanced by trim tabs and a Hinckley JetStick joystick control system that integrates steering, throttle, and bow thruster into a single lever. The hull employs Hinckley's DualGuard composite construction with a Kevlar E-glass hybrid outer skin, aircraft-grade balsa core below the waterline, and carbon-fiber inner skin laminated with vinylester resin.
The pilothouse centers the boat's operating station, fitted with two Stidd helm seats, oversized frameless stainless steel windows with electric sliding side panels, and full navigation electronics including a 12-inch Raymarine color chartplotter with 18-inch 2-kilowatt radar, Raymarine autopilot with GPS interface, and Standard Horizon VHF radio. Helm instrumentation tracks engine hours, oil pressure, cooling water temperature, and fuel consumption. The pilothouse features satin-varnished cherry cabinetry and teak sole, with cushioned settees port and starboard and overhead hatches with blinds.
Below deck, the single cabin features a V-berth with insert berth forward, a head with Vacu-Flush toilet and shower to starboard, and a galley to port with electric cooktop, microwave, and refrigeration. The interior is finished throughout in satin-varnished cherry with teak and tulipwood cabin sole. The boat carries a 9-kilowatt Onan generator with sound shield, 20,000 and 10,000 BTU air conditioning units, a 40-gallon water tank, 220-gallon fuel capacity, and a 27-gallon holding tank.
The cockpit features forward and aft-facing seating with a teak sole and transom door opening to a swim platform with teak insert treads and stainless steel folding ladder. A Muir electric windlass with 22-pound Delta anchor manages ground tackle from the helm or a handheld remote. The topsides received new Flag Blue Awlgrip paint in 2017, the cockpit upholstery was updated in 2023, and a new Fusion stereo system with Sonos speakers throughout was installed the same year.
